Imaginative interiors for a Manchester hotel to spark a sense of wonder

Imaginative interiors for a Manchester hotel to spark a sense of wonder

Project Information

'Ready or not, here we come' is the slogan for Treehouse Hotel Manchester, a 224-room hotel where every whimsical detail bottles the joy of childhood. Thoughtful programming, fun amenities and delicious food and drink invite guests to relax into the playfulness and freedom of years gone by.

Attention to detail was vital when designing the interiors of Treehouse Hotel Manchester and – in order to capture the spontaneity of making as a child – our team utilised found materials, vintage furniture, mismatched glass panels, an assortment of furniture legs and a jumble of textiles. Consequently, every bedroom and function room has its own unique character full of objects with a story to spark a sense of wonder.

On entering the hotel, guests are immersed into the optimism and imagination of childhood, encountering a large indoor tree that grows up through the ceiling. The reception desk is constructed with imperfect, raw materials to make it look “like a kid has made it” – which was the design brief from chairman and CEO, Barry Sternlicht.

Play is encouraged through name carving on small wooden panels that can be hung in the lift lobby as an alternative guestbook. And another indoor tree made from reclaimed wood features a rope swing.

The final hotel is an eclectic collage of childhood influences and modern sensibilities, repurposing patchwork quilts, asymmetrical doorhandles and handmade furniture to create a nostalgic world of adventure and secret hideaways.
