Working at the cutting edge of CGI and visual effects for media giants such as Sega, Disney, Sony and Prime Video, Lunar Animation required a website that immersed visitors in their dynamic visuals. Our digital team designed and built a custom website that clearly directs visitors to the studio’s different services while placing their incredible animation work front and centre.
Lunar Animation uses the latest software and hardware to craft captivating game sequences, TV spots, VFX for feature films, episodic content and more. It was vital that the new website matched the quality of the studio’s high-end work, so the design was built around video, opening with a cinematic, full-width showreel that immediately engages visitors and spotlights Lunar’s most recent releases.
As users scroll through the homepage, the visuals move fluidly, blending video with high-quality concept artwork to create a compelling experience that demonstrates Lunar Animation’s varied services and productions.
Numerous clever microinteractions – such as text colour changes and services that move in and out of focus – infuse the page with excitement and intrigue, highlighting important information while making the website enjoyable to use.
A large, bold typographical style was applied across the site in black and white with interjections of orange, maintaining the energy and dynamism of the animation work. This typography is complemented by contrasting smaller text that draws the eye and tells the studio’s story.
Pops of orange continue throughout the navigation and the studio pages, emphasising CTAs and creating visual consistency across the site.
Filters were added to each project to provide a brief description of the individual pieces of work. Project visuals remain static until hovered over, at which point they animate, helping users focus on one project at a time, making the page feel accessible rather than overwhelming.
Once on the project page, a snippet of work plays at the top, followed by descriptive text, an extended trailer, static visuals and links to other similar projects at the bottom.
Due to the large number of videos hosted on the site, it was important that the build followed SEO and performance best practices to ensure fast loading times and smooth playback. Through careful coding, the final website achieves strong performance metrics, with videos loading promptly to create a fun and energising website for Lunar Animation.
