Our studio’s long-standing relationship with hair salon Laundry has led to a number of different collaborations, and Jen Hall (hairdresser at Laundry, Stroud Green, London) reached out for help in developing packaging and website design for her newest venture; Crap Hair Club.
The go-to curly locks specialist with an unrivalled ability to resurrect and boost curls, Jen has quietly amassed a TikTok audience of faithful followers. She needed a striking visual identity and attention-grabbing packaging design for the two new products; soft clay paste and soft weightless curl cream.
Another key deliverable to support the product packaging was Shopify e-commerce design and development, optimised for driving online sales and leveraging TikTok as a key marketing channel. With a foundation of brand assets already available, our design team’s challenge was to elevate and expand the Crap Hair Club identity.
With a brand identity and illustrations available to utilise, our primary focus for the packaging was colour and typography. Our team looked to communicate Jen's electric personality through the punchy application of colour, creating a clear label in a reduced but bold yellow palette. Typographically, the loose, brush-style heading font for the Play and Wave products reflects Jen’s approach of playing and testing products on the back of her hand, to find the best application for varying hair texture.
With a minimal product offering, the Shopify site was designed to prioritise ease of use, allowing a clear and simple purchase path for customers. Jen had a desire to share her curl experience and knowledge, so creating space for product tutorial videos was a must on product pages. With a great product, bold packaging system and solid digital foundation, the potential for future growth for Crap Hair Club is possible.
