Showcasing a selection of YHA accommodation offerings through vibrant poster design

Showcasing a selection of YHA accommodation offerings through vibrant poster design

Project Information

To offer adventure to all, YHA invites travellers to stay in a variety of locations in a range of different accommodation types.

Charitable organisation YHA has spent the past 95 years operating a unique network of hostels throughout England and Wales, creating a community of shared spaces, open to all and for the benefit of everybody. They believe in the power of travel and adventure to connect people to each other, nature, the outdoors and heritage.

In order to celebrate the charity’s broad range of accommodation – that includes camping, city breaks and rural retreats available for complete hire – we designed a series of posters loosely based on real YHA locations to use in hostels throughout England and Wales.

We took visual cues from the old rail and transportation posters of the 1930s, a key time in YHA's early development, and selected Sam Chivers who has previously worked for GQ, the Guardian and Wired magazine, as our illustrator. His colourful and often abstract works depict people and places and felt like the perfect fit.

The bright and colourful posters capture the vibrancy of a cityscape and the refreshment of the great outdoors, demonstrating the different types of accommodation and locations the YHA has to offer.
