A moment away from Hyde Park, The Pilgrm is a 73-bedroom hotel with views of London through every window. Built across a collection of Victorian buildings, the hotel honours the architecture of the original construction and creates new narratives through bespoke fittings and sustainable furniture.
When we began working with The Pilgrm, the buildings had suffered from 50 years of poor renovations. Our aim was to restore the story and glory of the Victorian row through a focus on materials that would have longevity and transcend trends. We conceptualised the look and feel of the bedrooms, corridors and communal spaces, translating ideas into design detail, room layouts, lighting plans and colour schemes.
In order to add to the already substantial character of the space we chose reclaimed high end timbers and materials – including steel and brass formed in our hometown of Sheffield. Custom upholstery and textiles were sourced and 1,000 pieces of bespoke furniture were designed and made in our workshop.
Through the branding we wanted to capture the escapism experienced during a visit to the Pilgrm. We imagined ourselves walking into the hotel and being whisked away into another world – just like in the movies – so, we relied on cinematic references. A strong typographic treatment reflects the honest yet impactful intention of the brand, and we worked with a range of uncoated stock papers to produce official hotel stationary.
The website presents a digital design that pairs great imagery with a compelling narrative and offering. Our web team integrated an online booking platform, provided an area for social and news articles as well as coding a user-friendly interface for an international audience.
Opened in 2017, The Pilgrm is a popular hotel, catching the attention of Monocle, Condé Nast and The Daily Telegraph – to name a few. In 2019, The Pilgrm was one of two hotels in the UK to be on the Dezeen longest for best Hotel and Short Stay Interior.
"The 93FT team took the time to understand the vision behind The Pilgrm and the building’s own character, over a journey that for myself, started six years ago. Like us, they could see what the building could one day become, making them the ideal partner."
